Patients diagnosed with acute or chronic kidney failure or who have other complex nephrology issues can get the care they need in San Antonio. As a team member at San Antonio Kidney Disease Center Physicians Group since 1989, Peter Smolens, MD, is a trusted leader at the clinic.

After finishing his undergraduate studies with honors from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, Dr. Smolens went directly into medical school. He earned his medical degree from Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia. Dr. Smolens then relocated to the Midwest to complete residency training in internal medicine at the Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus.

He went through fellowship training at the University of Texas Health Science Center in the Division of Renal Diseases and has remained in San Antonio ever since. Dr. Smolens is board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology through the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is also a member of the American Society of Nephrology and the International Society of Nephrology.

  


As of January 2019 Dr Smolens has retired and is no longer seeing patients. We at San Antonio Kidney Disease Center are grateful for his service and the privilege of being his colleague.
